Roles & Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Senior Protection Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Program Manager (PXD), the Protection Assistant (Assessment and Referrals) supports the implementation of pre-departure activities in line with IOM procedures, contributing to the orderly and timely collection of migrants information before departure to facilitate their return and reintegration process afterwards.
Receive and process referrals from multiple entry points, including consular support, detention centers, embassies, hotline, and other IOM units and receiving missions.
Perform AVM assessments for all received and referred migrants, including collection of biodata, documentation, and protection screenings in line with established SOPs.
Categorize cases into Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) or Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants (AVM), based on established guidelines,and document the classification accordingly.
Enter every assessment into MiMOSA with supporting documentation, photographs, and required country-specific forms, maintaining data accuracy standards.
Review paperwork for single-headed families and upload all necessary documents to MiMOSA in line with internal procedures.
Refer cases to relevant IOM units or external partners (Medical, MHPSS, Specialized Protection, Consular Support), based on identified needs and established referral pathways.
Follow up on referred cases using MiMOSA s reporting functions, maintaining up-to-date records and documentation.
Arrange with the AVM unit for clearance of vulnerable cases prior to the handover of the Travel Ready cases, to support completion of the VHR process.
Support the handover of all travel-ready cases to the VHR Pre-Departure Case Management Team only once required steps have been completed.
Conduct field missions to embassies, detention centers, and other locations as required for assessments and assistance.
Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date case records for all assigned caseloads, completing data entry and reporting requirements in a timely manner.
Apply protection principles, confidentiality, and dignity throughout the assessment and referral process.
Perform other duties as assigned in line with the operational needs of the Migrant Protection Unit
