Position: Head of Science Department Location: Dubai, UAE
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Science Department to join a leading school in Dubai. This is an exciting opportunity for an academic leader who is passionate about delivering high-quality science education, supporting teaching excellence, and driving strong student outcomes across the department.
Key Responsibilities Academic & Curriculum Leadership Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the Science curriculum across relevant key stages. Develop and review schemes of work in line with the school’s curriculum framework and UAE educational standards. Ensure the effective delivery of Science subjects, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Maintain high standards of teaching and learning across the department, ensuring consistency and academic excellence. Staff Leadership & Development Manage, mentor, and support Science teachers to enhance classroom performance and professional development. Conduct lesson observations, provide constructive feedback, and identify training needs. Foster a collaborative and high-performing departmental culture focused on continuous improvement. Student Achievement & Performance Monitor student progress and use assessment data to identify learning gaps and improvement opportunities. Implement targeted intervention strategies to raise attainment and improve academic outcomes. Support students in achieving strong results in internal and external assessments. Laboratory, Resources & Department Operations Oversee departmental resources and ensure laboratories are well-equipped to support effective teaching and practical learning. Manage the department budget and ensure resources are allocated efficiently. Ensure high standards of practical work, laboratory management, and health & safety compliance across all Science areas. Promote a safe, engaging, and well-organized learning environment within the department.
Candidate Profile Master’s degree in a relevant Science discipline such as Chemistry, Physics, or Biology is highly preferred. Minimum 3 years of experience in an academic leadership role within the UAE or within an international curriculum school environment. Strong knowledge of international curricula such as British / BSO, IB, or US curriculum. Proven ability to lead a department, improve academic performance, and support teacher development. Strong understanding of laboratory operations, practical science delivery, and health & safety standards. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
