Job Summary

The Psychiatry Specialist is a qualified medical doctor with specialized training in psychiatry who provides clinical care for patients with mental health disorders. This role focuses on conducting psychiatric assessments, diagnosing, and managing mental illnesses under the supervision of senior consultants. The Psychiatry Specialist plays a critical role in delivering evidence-based psychiatric treatment, supporting multidisciplinary care teams, and contributing to patient education and follow-up.




Job Responsibilities 1

Conducts detailed psychiatric assessments including history taking, mental status examination, and risk assessments.



Diagnoses psychiatric disorders using recognized classification systems.



Develops and implements individualized treatment plans combining pharmacological and psychotherapeutic approaches.



Monitors patient progress and modifies treatment plans as necessary.



Manages acute psychiatric presentations and coordinate care for emergency cases.



Prescribes psychiatric medications safely, monitors therapeutic response, and manages side effects.



Provides follow-up care in outpatient clinics and inpatient wards.




Job Responsibilities 2

Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams including psychologists, social workers, nurses, and occupational therapists.



Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation.



Participates in clinical case discussions and departmental meetings.



Assists in patient and family education regarding mental health conditions and treatments.



Supports the implementation of clinical guidelines and quality improvement initiatives.



Contributes to audits, research projects, and clinical data collection as required.

Job Knowledge & Skills

Proficient in psychiatric diagnostic assessments and clinical interviewing.



Knowledge of psychopharmacology and non-pharmacological treatments.



Ability to manage mental health emergencies.



Good interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with patients and families.



Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.



Competent in clinical documentation and use of electronic health records.



Awareness of legal and ethical issues in psychiatry. 




Job Experience

Minimum of 2–5 years clinical experience in psychiatry or mental health



Experience in working within a multidisciplinary mental health team.



Experience in conducting psychiatric assessments and managing common psychiatric disorders.



Minimum 1 year of experience in GCC (preferred).
